OK..It`s the second time i see Priest in another country than Sweden. It was very nice to spend some time in Tallinn. If you havent been to Tallinn/Estonia before and plan a trip to the city i suggest you find a hotel in the old town.. there are lots of medieval houses there etc! Very very nice.
One thing i noticed is that they played mostly Swedish music on the radio here which was fun but a bit strange..hehe.. Made me feel like home. Actually Tallinn reminds me much about Sweden..except the language of course. It is me and Peter K and LEATHERX that flew over together from Sweden to see Priest live. It enjoyed very much meeting you aswell mai!! Nice to meet you in person for the first time!! I also talked alot with Daniela (Lita77) and her friend outside the arena. The show: The venue is called Saku Suurhall. (SAKU is the name of a beer they sell over here. Suur means "big") Its a quite new arena and i liked it. It was not full but there was not to many empty seats. Also there was no seats an the floor..it means standing-tickets which i like. I saw Priest live in the very beginning of the tour so it was very interesting to see them again in the very end of the tour. 100 shows later... The opening act sang metal in russian. I enjoyed watching them but when at a Priest-show the focus is on Priest! The same songs was played in the speakers before the show. Like Sad But True, Back In Black etc. Gets you in the mood! It was cool to watch the Estonian crowd. There were classic metalheads in black. I saw very young people...school/kids etc...i enjoy watching crowds. I guess for most of them it was the first Priest/show. About Priest i jst can say: WOW!! God they were good. Rob`s voice was very very strong! And those high notes were incredible! Dogs are howling all across Estonia!!! The band was very tight and in an excellent shape. The self-esteem was on high! I have noticed through the years that Robs voice gets stronger and stronger during the tour which Rob again proved to be right. It was the first time for me to hear the mighty Hellrider live which was a big moment for me. And it was amazing indeed! Especially the screams in the end of the song! One thing i noticed was that Rob used the leather-hat during LAM also. Cool! It was one of the best shows i have seen with Priest. Very very good performance. And the crowd was good aswell..i saw Priest enoyed Tallinn. Actually Rob talked quite alot about it after Diamonds And Rust...thanking everyone for waiting so many years for them. Also in the end of the show he shouted that "The Priest will be back!!!" :metal: Judas Priest in Tallinn was a great concert. Time to fly back to Sweden! /Ove |

Priest in Tallinn
Hello, Mai and Ove !
I enjoyed the Tallin gig just as much as you did , wonderful crowd with a mix of ages , all from little kids sitting on their parents shoulders to very old drunk people doing their best to sing along , it was beautiful ! This trip was worth to sell the guitar , travelling with a serious case of asthma ( Thank God, the extiement didn't kill me before the show! ) , just to leave everyday seriousness aside for a while . This will be a memorable ending of this year. Thank you Mai and Ove for being fun to be with , i'll look forward till next time ! |
|
It was really great to spend time with you Mai and Paloma!! :metal: And what a good JP-show it was in Tallinn!! Me and Peter are back up north now.

interview with KK and Ian
i found one interview here yesterday and now i translated it. Enjoy!
http://www.sloleht.ee/index.aspx?id=187026&r=39 First the author talks very briefly about the band and show, then 20 minutes interview with K.K. Downing and Ian Hill (seems to be taken in a hotel before the show in Tallinn). Question: How is the tour so far? Is setlist the same what it was in spring? Hill: The same, mostly. Some songs have changed. Question: How did band get its name and how is the right way to pronounce it? There are people here, who pronounce [p r a i s t] instead of [p r i: s t] – is that in kind of a dialect like this? (K.K., Hill and manager all laugh) Hill: No, it has nothing to do with a dialect. [p r a i s t] is wrong, [p r i: s t] is correct. K.K.: It was so long ago. Simply Judas Priest suites to heavy metal very well. Question: About musical influences. You come from the same part of England, where Black Sabbath comes from, Birmingham. You began later, did they influence you? Hill: I admired Sabbath. But they did not influence us musically, there in the beginning were lots of influences from many bands. I’d name Jack Bruce here. K.K.: Jimi Hendrix was a big idol. Question: Have you had parties with Sabbath? K.K.: Yes, of course. We toured with them, took part of Ozzfest. Btw, their manager, Ozzy’s wife Sharon, treated us very well. Question: How are the relationships between members in the band after Halford returned? Why did you let him go in the first place at all? Hill: It is great, all get along well. Halford wanted to do his solo album in 1991, we did not hinder him, but his being away too much began to disturb our thing. Question: Do you still keep in contact with Ripper Owens? K.K.: He is doing his own project. It is called “No Fear”, but I’m not very sure. Question: Which album do you consider the best of your career so far? K.K.: It is difficult to say. Some albums have helped the career. “Screaming For Vengeance”, “British Steel”, “Defenders Of The Faith”. Hill: The best Of’s. It is difficult to say. Question: About Estonia. Did you know anything about the country before you came here? What are your first impressions? K.K. (smiles): By Eurovision. Hill: You have absolutely beautiful town. Especially the old town, simply great. Question: But Estonian women? K.K.: True, I knew before, that there are lots of very beautiful women in this region. Hill: I’ve my own family. Question: You’ve toured a lot around the world. Maybe you’ll tell some funny story, weird incident? K.K.: Can’t tell, there may be troubles later. Hill: I’m in a band to play music. I don’t know. There something happens in every tour. Helicopters also break. Question: You just came from Russia. How were you taken there? K.K.: The crowd was very good. We noticed, especially in Moscow, that there were lots of security people inside the arena. Question: When was the last time you played in a club, face to face? What is the biggest crowd there has ever been? K.K.: Probably at Ozzfest. There were 300 000, but there were other bands also, not only us. Or then Rock In Rio festival. In the early years, when we toured with Led Zeppelin, there were 60 000 people sometimes at the show. In clubs we were the last time with Ripper Owens. Question: Where do you get inspiration for your music? For example the latest hit “Revolution”. Is it inspired by a Russians Great Socialist October Revolution or Cubans rebellion, Castro’s fiesta? (Both LOL) K.K.: We get inspiration from everywhere. From guitar-riffs, lyrics, it is different. The result we do together. That’s how it is with “Revolution”. It has nothing to do with Russians or Cubans. In 90s metal kind of died out. There came grunge etc. Now there’s hard rock in it’s rise again, metal is coming back, that is what we say. Question: Your Prime Minister Tony Blair is visiting Estonia today. What do you think about him as a politician? K.K.: Is very proud, is very british. Hill: Because of him we did not get away from the city at a right time. Question: How do you keep yourselves in a shape, avoid rutine and are able to give the best on stage tour by tour? K.K.: I like to play football. Hill: Golf, drive fast cars, yard work and visit pubs. Question: Future plans. When there will be a new album out? There are talks about DVD? K.K.: We will continue with shows, keep band’s image. Without a doubt we will go to a studio one day. Hill: DVD will be out soon. That’s all. He thanks etc. That has been kinda silly to translate, because it first has been in English and… but ok. |
Thanks for posting the interview...Some of those questions are funny.
It seems like K.K. and Ian were both having a good time in Estonia although Ian "has a family" ....lol  |
